Chicano Park

San Diego is home to many amazing attractions, but one of the most special is Chicano Park. Located in the heart of Barrio Logan, San Diego's oldest Mexican-American neighborhood, Chicano Park is a seven-acre oasis dotted with more than 100 murals, sculptures, gardens, picnic tables and playgrounds. The park is also home to the largest concentration of Chicano murals in the world.

Barrio Logan is one of the most special communities in the city, and at the heart of it is Chicano Park. This park was formed in 1971 after a protest in 1970 to stop the construction of a highway patrol station. Since then, this park has been the pillar of the Barrio Logan community and houses over 80 murals. This beautiful neighborhood celebrates traditional Mexican cultural holidays, such as Dia de los Muertos, and is home to tons of local shops that celebrate and honor Chicano culture. This community stands for its history, generational residents and the fight for political and social justice. More than anything, Barrio Logan is a place of community. Thanks to the residents' efforts to preserve their culture and traditions, Barrio Logan is a San Diego gem.

Throughout the year, Chicano Park hosts festivals of music and Aztec dance, the biggest being Chicano Park Day — held each April on the Saturday closest to April 22, the date of the park's beginnings. Additionally, Chicano Park is the hub of an emerging arts district, with galleries, boutiques, brew pubs and craft coffee shops nearby. Whether you're looking for a place to soak up some sun or experience San Diego's rich cultural heritage, Chicano Park is sure to delight.
